There are two kinds of people in life: those who continue learning well past the last ringing of the high school class bell, and those who are trudging through life praying for retirement. In my own life, 40 have finally arrived. Am I old? No. Should I feel old? Why? School is twenty years in the past for me, and yet, everyday is a learning experience for me. I am still learning astronomy and engineering from The Science Channel, and I am engaged in a daily pursuit of learning to be a better computer programmer. I was one of those unlucky soles in that I graduated from high school in 1983. My choice career since 1979 was that of a computer programmer. In 1983, when I entered college, I was stoked. I was going after my dream to be a computer programmer. Unfortunately, I was relegated to gaining my education from a two-year college, whose computer science teacher chose to live in the past. The college that was close to my home was my starting point in my college career, and they were stuck in the technologies of the 1960’s and 1970’s. While in high school, I had been privileged enough to be able to have Personal Computers in the classroom. I was able to be schooled in computer programming on TRS-80’s (fondly called Trash 80’s by those who used them) and on the first Apple Computers to enter the marketplace. The writing was on the wall. The future of computer programming was in the personal computer market. Yet, our instructor would only teach us FORTRAN, an already dying language. (By the mid- to late-1980’s, nearly every major business had done away with those massive mainframe computers that relied upon the Fortran operating system.) It was a very frustrating time in my life. I left college, disillusioned in the fact that I could not learn the kind of programming that I wanted to do in my life. Move forward eleven years into the future. It was 1994 and Windows 3.11 was the computer operating system of choice. Now, that was a long time ago. In 1994, I hooked myself up with my first personal computer, and then began the self-teaching process. In 2001, I began teaching computer programming to students who were paying for Adult Continuing Education courses as our local vo-tech. For me, programming is an everyday learning experience. This past weekend, I was finally able to break through in my understanding of a concept that I had previously had a lot of problems in comprehending. It was two days past my 40th birthday, and I had a major learning breakthrough. Even at 40, I am still young in heart and mind. If I were to contribute only one thing to my youthful feelings that would be the fact that even at 40, I find time in my day to learn new things. Are you continuing your education, or are you among the poor folks who are praying for time to race by so that you may enter into retirement? (The average person lives only 3 years past retirement. why should you be racing to the grave? instead, contemplate the possibility of racing to a life worth living…) Adult Continuing Education is a worthwhile endeavor, whether you are 25, 40 or 85. Please endeavor yourself to learn something new today. You will feel much better once you have done so.

A Guide to Online Accredited Degrees

Wednesday

Author: Talib.

While many people dream of getting some kind of degree, it is often impossible to interrupt your career to go to school. Most people have a job, and the hours and classes of a regular university or college often do not fit into their schedule. Or they have a family to support and can’t take the time to attend a university. Non-traditional students are becoming the norm instead of the exception, and many colleges and universities are recognizing this fact and responding to it by providing online instruction.

One great option for this type of person is to earn an online accredited degree. This is a degree from a college or university that has accreditation, which means it meets established criteria for each degree it offers.

The programs at these online colleges vary. It is a good idea to learn as much as you can about each one before making your decision about which one to attend. Request information and study it closely to make sure they offer the degree of your choice. For whatever kind of degree you want to earn, there is probably an online college that offers it. You can get Associates, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, a post-graduate degree or simply a certification that is needed to get a better job. Many of these online programs offer financial aid, as well.

There are so many advantages to getting an online degree. You do not have to commute at all. You can arrange your classes to fit into your life, not the other way around. Distance learning saves you time and money by being able to do it at your convenience around your life. The flexibility is one of the greatest assets of the online degree. You also get the added benefits of meeting and interacting with other teachers and students, and having a degree usually means having a better job and an increased salary.

However, it is important to make sure that your program is accredited. It does you no good to earn a degree from a fly-by-night program that leaves you with a degree or certification that no one will recognize and is only as valuable as the paper it is printed on. Your education is the key to your future, so you need to make sure that it is a good education.

If you were every considering getting a degree to get a different or better job, now is the time to do it. Online accredited degrees are receiving a lot of attention, and before long, they will be considered similar to degrees that are earned in the traditional way. Whether you sit in a classroom or sit at your computer, the same academic standards are applied to these degree programs. Get yours!

Spring brings forth a time of renewal and change. One of life’s major changes during this time period is the retirement of one’s educational career, and an introduction into the career field. This harmonious celebration is called Graduation. Regardless if you are graduating from high school or college, this transition forces an individual to face life head on; and allows an individual to take individual shape and grow. Here in my opinion are three great specialized gifts in which you can give a loved one to help them on their way.

The first gift is the traditional gift of money. This gift is the most versatile gift, and the fail safe gift for any occasion. This allows the graduate freedom of choice to do whatever they see fit with their financial future. They can invest it, pay off student loans, spend it on rent/groceries, buy a gift they want, or do what ever they want with it. If you don’t know what to give a person for graduation, the gift of money is a pretty safe idea. The only problem is how much do you give? (This would depend on your relation to the person, your personal financial situation, your perception of what the individual would do with the money and the financial situation of the graduate).

The second gift that is specialized for graduation is the gift of jewelry. For the male spectra, a class ring would be a wonderful personalized gift for a graduate. Make sure you purchase the ring in the correct size, and also get the correct color gem to match his style. Also, a more formal fancy wrist watch is an awesome gift. This is a very traditional, heart warming gift that signifies to the male that he has accomplished something great. (Make sure he likes the watch before you buy it however). For the female population, jewelry can take on a whole new aspect.

A class ring is an ok idea for a female graduate, but more personalized exotic jewelry is the more likely their personal choice. Moderately expensive earrings or a nice bracelet/necklace may be the most appropriate gift for a female graduate. These gifts can range from your average tennis bracelet, to a beautiful birth stone white gold ring, to a personalized bracelet such as an Italian charm bracelet (such as Chamilia beads or Troll beads). No matter whatever form of jewelry you get the lady, make sure she likes it first (she is the one wearing it, not you). It might not be a bad idea to take her out and ask her what she likes before you get it for her. This may take the surprise out of the gift, but at the cost that she actually likes the gift you give her.

The third specialized graduation gift is the gift of a paid vacation. Your loved one has just spent the last couple of years of their lives devoted to thousands and thousands of hours of work/study: they deserve a break. This gift can be tailored to fit the needs of any type of personality. Weather your loved one loves a relaxing vacation on the beach, or if your loved one prefers to live off the land in the mountains, a personalized vacation to the choice of the graduate is an awesome way to show your love for them.

Graduation brings a wonderful sense of accomplishment, and renewal. The graduate has just spent the past few years of their lives devoted to education. What better way to pay them back than through the best three specialized gifts for this occasion.

Kids Stranded Academically

Author: Wendy Stenberg-Tendys.

Vanuatu’s population is very young with the majority (45%) under 15 years of age.

A 2006 youth project survey estimated that 6000 school children were expected to end their education last year while only 500 were expected to continue into secondary schooling.

On the isolated, northern islands of the archipelago of Vanuatu, daily life continues in the custom village lifestyle hundreds of years old. Last January the arrival of Cyclone Funa changed everything – homes were damaged, schools shattered, food crops destroyed. Until now hunger was unheard of in these traditional communities. The simple village tasks occupied the day, along with the ‘dare to dream’ of schooling and becoming a carpenter, a school teacher, a nurse, or a pilot.

Education is not free in Vanuatu. These traditional communities do not earn the hard cash to pay for basic services. So the school fees are paid in the “custom tradition” – with goods such as hand woven “money mats”, firewood, pig tusks and shells. Yet when primary schooling is complete and kids must move from the village far across the ocean for secondary schooling, monetary fee payments are required. There is no money. There are no dreams for many of the kids. The students are academically stranded. Stranded too in their village lifestyle.

YouMe Support Foundation, charity is partnering with winaresort.com, is giving away a South Pacific island resort in a world first. Later this year some lucky people will have a comfortable tax free income and be the proud owner of Seachange Lodge, in the capital Port Vila. Funds will set up for cashless education grants in the remote area.

“You won’t find a better investment out there,” Rick, the current owner of Seachange Lodge, said. Since 2004 guests of Seachange Lodge have helped the proprietors, Rick and Wendy Tendys, to send desperately needed school supplies, and other goods, to these far flung island communities.

“The government does little to assist these people,” the Prime Minister Mr Lini admitted when he visited the area recently. “Sometimes all that is needed is only $US500 to bring a classroom into use”. That was before Cyclone Funa.

The Prime Minister was speaking of an area where one exercise book is shared between several pupils, and pencils broken into three pieces, to give the kids something to write with.

Qualified teachers are in very high demand and recently graduated students from primary school assist the younger kids. Many of the parents cannot read or write, but they too dare to dream for the future of their kids as the leaders of Vanuatu in the 21st century. How would you feel if your kids were not able to get a high school education?

Axial Age II

Author: Aisha Lee.

People are profoundly unhappy accepting the world in its dark tints. Many days ago when Heliocentric paradigm replace the geocentric concept there was much denial in comparison with the present days. Ideas and concepts, which exist today, don’t have place in 1500CE. During our life God helps those who follow the way of truth.

It is not difficult to see how the philosophers, scientists or religious leaders of the 15000’s were making the mistakes. I wonder but this period of time is characterized by the changes made during a short time. But let’s remember the most important period – the axial age.

According the opinion of Karl Jaspers, German philosopher, who suppose this age to be between 800 and 200 BCE. There was revolution transformation in India and China during these years. K.Jaspers observed common changes to the better in religion, in philosophy. Jaspers considered this age to be unique and example for comparing.

So, history should always see back on Axial Age II. Radical transformations off old forms of religious thought are everywhere. The Catholic church buckles with Protestants denominations. The words of Neale Donald Walsch sound: “ Yesterday’s God cannot serve tomorrow’s world…” He is sure that we are born for the religious experiment, and there are no the area in our life not to be touched. A great transformation approaches – awake NOW!

Guidance Cannot Correct the Man

Wednesday
Mar 26,2008

Author: Dalip Singh Wasan.

Guidance cannot correct the man.

We shall have to accept that all guidance given to this man had been paper transaction and this man could not be corrected. Even religions had been guiding this man and if we study the man of today, we shall come to the conclusion that all religious guidance failed. The man could not believe that God is one and we all are His children. Such guidelines are written in all the religious books, but it is an accepted thing that the men on this earth are basically divided on the basis of religions and had there been only one religion, there would have been chances that this man could have become one and member of one family. The religion might have given good guidance, but the division which is based on religions is so permanent that all efforts made update have failed.
All the people in the world are telling that God is one. They all are telling that we all are His children. They all are telling that we are members of one family. But we all know that all these pronouncements are lip service and actually we all are divided on the basis of religions and people of one religion hate the people of other religions and if they do not hate, they do not love the people in other religions. We have noted that some people are complaining that they are being discriminated only because that they belong to a minority group and the people in the majority are claiming superiority. Here in India we had declared secularism and no discrimination on the basis of religion, but still some are telling us that they are in minority and that is the reason they are being discriminated and some say that they are in majority and therefore, the people in minority should respect them and must take them as their elders and obey them. We have noted that some minorities are turning terrorists and some majorities are adopting the method of rioting and both are killing the men in other group.
We must note that there shall be none who would join all the religions into one. Such trials had been there in history, but all such trial had failed. People in each religion have started digging out history and not they are trying to establish that their religion is better than the religions of others. They are constructing their own religious places and they are publishing good books to establish that their religions are having better principles of life. They have started establishing different books, different religious places, different methods of worship, different methods of prayers, different languages, different life style, different method of eating, different method of speaking, different method of meeting each other and if we go further, we shall find that people of one religion are liking to live in separate colonies. They do not like to live in colonies of people of other religions. They are under a fear that they shall not be safe amongst people of other religions.
So we shall have to admit that religions could not play a healthy role in the life of the people and that is the reasons, in spite of all the guidance in religious books, religions are separating the people and this separation is so wide that it would not be abridged in centuries. Time is coming when people of one religion shall be waging war against people of other religion and they shall try that all the people of that religion be killed or converted . The religions are not taking us to the right direction. Religions are dividing us and this division is a continuous process.
So must see that the guidelines given in religious books are for our recitation and nothing more. We are not acting upon those advices. Therefore, we should admit that religions could not bring us on the right path.
