Writing a resume can be a daunting experience. Sitting there with a blank piece of paper and no idea where to start is enough to frustrate even the best of us.
Also, knowing the pressure you are under to write something amazing - something that will encourage recruiters to pick up the phone and call you - can cause what can only be described as “writers block”.
This is when it can be useful to get some resume help and so start to fire up your inspiration and enthusiasm levels.
1) Discussion Forums
The first of these sources of resume help is online discussion forums.
A quick search in Google will reveal dozens of forums for job searchers that you can set up an account with.
Here you can ask for help and perhaps even give a little something back to the community when your resume starts generating the sort of results you want.
The problem with forums, of course, is that being free you’re highly unlikely to get the best advice possible.
After all, anyone with any real “secrets” and short cuts to resume success are likely to have packaged up the information and sold it rather than giving it away for free on a forum.
The information you’ll find on forums tends to be far more basic and well-known, but can be of some use.
So while forums are better than nothing, they’re certainly not the best source of resume help in my humble opinion.
2) Books
Whether these are print books from a book store or one of the assortment of online books (or ebooks) these sources of help tend to contain somewhat more “meat” than free discussion forums.
Often written by professionals in the recruitment field you’re more likely to get a genuine “insiders look” at writing a resume - and indeed the whole recruitment process.
One factor to be aware of here is that the “rules” tend to change quite often in terms of what recruiters expect and the techniques that work best so it’s advisable to check the publication date of any book you’re considering.
Older books are generally better avoided (though of course there are still some gems around) while more recently published books should be sought out.
Ebook of course, being digital, can be and often are updated regularly so they are always up to date.
As with any rule there are exceptions but you’re generally pretty safe with an ebook.
3) Resume Writing Consultants
These individuals can help to personally create your own plan of attack for job hunting.
Services typically offered include editing or critiquing an existing resume of yours, resume writing services, cover letter creation and interview skills training.
For the ultimate results these individuals are possibly the best solution but be sure you do your research thoroughly to select the best person for the job.
In addition, of course, this is the most expensive form of resume hlp and may be out of the realms of what you are willing to pay.
If this is the case, my own suggestion would be to select a few good books and then get to work!

Having EMPATHY, as we define it, could be your secret to your home based business success. You were either born with it or you were not. If you were born with it, you will never lose it. If you were not born with it, you can become more empathetic, but not like a person with the Natural Talent of EMPATHY. Mary Kay, of Mary Kay Cosmetics, has the Natural Talent of EMPATHY and she did just that. Yes, Mary Kay did business plans, cash flow projections, marketing analysis, etc. Although these are needed to be successful, they can be hired or learned from courses, workshops or books. Mary Kay’s EMPATHY cannot be learned from courses. It is what gave her the competitive edge.
EMPATHY, as we define it, is a Natural Talent. Building your work at home business around your Natural Talents is your key to success. Most people, who work at home, have little sense of their Talents, much less how to build a business around them. They are masters at knowing their weaknesses. They will develop Internet traffic generation systems, work to get a high Page Rank, and hire Search Engine Optimizers, while their Natural Talents lie dormant and neglected.
This is the second in a series of articles describing the 34 Natural Talents that can make you successful when you work at home. Your Talents are what give you the “edge” in the market place. The purpose of this article is to help the people working at home identify their Talents and what to do with them, once they are identified.
First, examine, do you have EMPATHY as we define it? EMPATHY defined is: “A person that loves to relate. They can sense the emotions of those around them. They feel what others are feeling as though they were their own feelings. Intuitively, they are able to see through the other person’s eyes and share their perspective. They do not necessarily agree with each person’s perspective. They do not necessarily feel pity for each person’s predicament. That would be sympathy, not empathy. They do not necessarily condone the choices each person makes, but they do understand. They hear the unvoiced questions. They anticipate needs. When others cannot find the words, they seem to find the right words and the right tone. They help people find the right phrases to express their feelings. They help others give voice to their emotional life.
A person with EMPATHY can go into a home based business such as selling eBooks, and be successful; however, it is much easier and a lot more fulfilling for someone with EMPATHY if they go into a business that requires a lot of personal contact and customer service.
A 20-year study conducted tracked 1,500 people who set out to become wealthy. Of these people, 1245 decided to go into a line of work that they didn’t particularly enjoy, (selling eBooks?) but which promised a lot of money. The other 255 did what they loved (Natural Talent?) hoping the money would follow. 100 of the 255 who did what they loved eventually became millionaires. Only 1 person in the 1245 who pursued the money became a millionaire.
EMPATHY is only one of the thirty-four Natural Talents that have been identified by the Gallup organization. The Gallup organization, of the Gallup Poll fame, interviewed 2 million successful people, spent millions of dollars and recorded the results for 25 years to identify these Natural 34 Talents.
For the home based business owner that wants more information about their specific Natural Talents, Tax Moms is sponsoring a FREE 9-week Experience called the “Be Financially Free with Ninergy – the Experience. The purpose of the Experience is to help people, which work at home, identify which of the 34 Natural Talents they possess and how to develop them.
The 9-week live webcast-conference is provided free and does not promote any book, product, franchise, service, or home based business. At the end of 9-weeks the participants will understand how their “Natural Talents” can cause their failure or lead to their success. It is a person’s lack of understanding of their “Natural Talent,” not the product; search engines, business plan, or capitalization is the reason for business failure. It is now their choice.
Registration is limited to 500. There is no cost to participate in any part of the Experience. The first part of the Experience arrives on July 4, 2005, Your Financial Independence Day. Register at http://ninergyexperience.com
The Natural Talents as defined in this article are from the book “Now, Discover your Strengths” by Marcus Buckingham & Donald O. Clifton, Ph D. Tax Moms is not affiliated with the Gallup organization or the StrengthsFinder® group, nor certified by them.

As the Web grows more crowded and just plain “noisy” with
information bombarding us from every angle, most people
welcome any tool, trick or shortcut to help them wade
through the mountains of data to find what they want.
Since your web browser represents your main window to the
Internet, it makes sense for any tool which enables you to
find what you need and get around faster online should sit
right where you need it most.
Introducing Web browser “toolbars,” free little programs
that work with Internet Explorer and Netscape to put you
several steps closer to the information you need right now.
~ Google Toolbar ~
The free toolbar from search giant Google offers the best
search features of any toolbar we evaluated.
Not only does it allows you to search the web, but also
enables you to search within a website to find specific
information.
The Google toolbar’s main features include “Page Rank,”
which gives an indication of a website’s overall value based
on your search criteria and other factors, along with a
“backwards links” function which allows you to see which
sites link to the website currently loaded in your browser.
You can download the Google toolbar on your web browser by
visiting http://toolbar.google.com and following the simple
installation instruction.
~ Alexa Toolbar ~
Alexa’s main claim to fame revolves around its traffic
ranking report on virtually any site on the Internet.
The lower the Traffic Ranking number, the more popular a
site rates in Alexa’s eyes. Currently Yahoo, MSN and Google
occupy the top 3 spots on Alexa’s charts.
With so many websites on the Internet, an Alexa ranking of
less than 100,000 is considered good, and a ranking of less
than 10,000 is considered outstanding as far as a site’s
relative popularity on the Web.
Alexa also offers a related links feature right on the
toolbar so you can quickly find links to sites that other
people also visit when surfing the site you currently have
loaded in your browser.
Alexa also offers a pop-up blocker to help cut down on the
pop-up windows that seem to invade your desktop the minute
you venture online. You can download the Alexa Toolbar free
from www.alexa.com.
~ AltaVista Toolbar ~
Former search giant AltaVista recently jumped on the toolbar
bandwagon with their offering from www.altavista.com.
Install the AltaVista toolbar and access a couple of
interesting features, including a language translation
button and an MP3 search.
Click the “Translate” button and instantly translate entire
web pages from one language to another.
The MP3 search will help you find the tune you want from
AltaVista’s audio index.
Most of the toolbars offer additional gadgets to help you
with everything from weather forecasts to currency
conversion.
Because they offer many of the same features and they take
up valuable screen space, using more than one toolbar at a
time often proves impractical.
Since most toolbars come free of charge, evaluate them all
for their main features and overall usability for your
particular needs and then stick with the best one.

Proper pricing of items to be listed for sale on eBay is one of the most important aspects of generating interest in one’s on-line auction listing.
If the price is too high, interest will be low, and the possibility of a sale decreases.
If the price is too low, the seller generates enormous traffic, yet the final bid might be too low to satisfy the seller’s need for a profit.
The following steps will aid in the process of pricing an item for sale on eBay.
Step 1: Determine How Much the Original Item was Worth
First of all, one must find out how much the item cost when it was new. This helps the seller set realistic goals as to how much they can expect to profit when the item is sold.
The seller must remember that the going price for the item in today’s market will be different from its original price. And depending on the demand for that item, he may get a price that is better, or worse than the original price.
The seller must also acceptance the fact that the buying power of today’s dollar is different from that of ten years ago.
Step 2: Do a Little Research
Sellers should research the current price of similar items. This gives the seller a good standard as to how much they should price their item. Searching eBay for successful auctions of similar items is one of the best ways to do this.
Step 2: How Much Has the Item Depreciated?
The seller must check the item for damages and other irregularities from a mint condition item of the same kind. They must then deduct a reasonable amount from the asking price based on their evaluation. Wear and tear on an item will definitely bring down the price of an item considerably. It is wise to make sure that items are repaired or spruced-up before being auctioned.
Step 3: Start a Little Lower than Usual When Setting the Selling
Price
It is wise to start an auction a step or two (or even three) lower than a sellers intended price. This generates interest in the item. It may be hard to believe, but auctions that start lower than the intended price actually have a better chance of overshooting the intended price.
Professional opinions are always available if the seller of an item is in doubt of the value of his or her item. Third party appraisal companies help in this regard. A list of such companies is available at the Authentication & Grading link under Protection and Authentication on eBay.

About two years ago, I had a go at commercial web site design. I put a medium-sized ad in a London classified ad paper. Nothing fancy: “Web designer seeks work …” etc. This was expensive, about £500 for a month’s run.
Got a few replies. Lesson number one: advertise where clients of the caliber you want will see it. The clients I got thought £300 was a lot for a web site. They didn’t want to pay web hosting. They wanted a lot of bang for their buck. ‘Mission creep’ was a term I grew to know and loathe.
This set me thinking: how could I give these people all they could ever want, but not spend a lot of time and money? Lately, I realized how.
So how can you get a full featured site up in a day? Easy (ish!).
1. Mambo Content Management System http://www.mambo.com
I wish I’d found this software a couple of years ago. It’s freeware. The default set-up allows people without web design skills to update the site. It has a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) option. This adds HTMLArea code to text input form fields. Each HTML code input box becomes a mini HTML editor.
If you can use Microsoft Word, you can add formatted HTML code to the site.
To get it running you need to know how to install MySQL databases, or have PHPMyAdmin as part of your web-hosting package.
You can add articles, edit them, send emails to members, and be contacted by users.
The only criticisms I have of this software are:
1. The admin interface is confusing. It’s all there, just finding and using it is the problem!
2. You need to search around template sites to find ones suited to your site purpose. I wanted simple, clean, business ones. Most of those available seem to have a fat graphic which covers half the screen. There are more restrained ones out there.
These are minor gripes, compared to the relief of finding what essentially a web site in a box is. It can be installed in an hour, once you get familiar with it.
To add ecommerce to your site:
Oscommerce Shopping Cart http://www.oscommerce.com
Again, this is a full-featured, freeware software. You can add lots of freeware ‘plug-ins’ to it, to get a professional shopping cart.
Therein lies the danger. Some of these plug-ins require altering or overwriting the default cart files. When you try to upgrade the cart version later, you may ‘break’ it, by overwriting a plug-in, thus creating errors.
The trick here is to only install plug-ins that add files (rather than overwrite them) or that require minor alterations to existing files.
What I do is download all the versions of the plug-in type I need e.g. a WYSIWYG editor. I then choose the one which has the least files, or which creates a new directory for its files. If it requires that important files be overwritten, or is complex, I chuck it.
Mambo and Oscommerce. Don’t try to integrate them! Hyperlink from one to the other. I’ve tried integrations of other software’s, like PhpBB and PhpNuke. Fine, when it works, but when you upgrade one or the other, arrgh!
*Keep databases separate*. If one goes skew-whiff, then at least the other will still work. Same goes for adding chat rooms and the like. If they’re all running off the one database, and that database becomes corrupted …
It may offend your sense of tidiness for your visitors to have to sign up twice at your site, but you’ll thank me for this sage advice later. Remember KISS is the basic rule of computing (Keep It Simple, Stupid!).

Most people never bother to look at the statistics program that comes with virtually every website because few realize the goldmine of information it contains.
Your website statistics hold the key for understanding your traffic, improving sales and increasing the overall effectiveness of your online selling. Whether you realize it or not, your website has ‘critical numbers’ that enable you to measure the overall success of your Internet presence.
Any serious website operator should understand the four most important numbers: Hits; Unique, Targeted Visitors; Leads; Sales.
Hits - Hits are typically page views, whether by the same or different visitors, and indicate overall activity on the site.
A lot of hits shows activity (usually a good thing), but doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve had a high number of visitors. Search engine ’spiders’ and surfers hitting their back buttons also up the hit count.
Research has shown that, depending on the size of your site, the ratio of hits to visitors will range anywhere from 2 to 1 all the way up to 12 to 1.
Unique, Targeted Visitors - people surfing to your site that have not been there before within a certain period of time. Depending on the statistics program you use, a unique visitor may be someone who hasn’t been to your site in a day or a week, while in other programs a visitor remains unique until you reset the stats.
You must understand how your stats program classifies unique visitors so you don’t mistakenly believe your site is getting 30 unique visitors a day only to find out it is the same 30 people coming back day after day!
A ‘targeted’ visitor means that the visitor has an interest in what you are selling or promoting, this is usually demonstrated by keyword searches at a search engine or by clicking targeted advertisements.
It does you no good to attract general traffic to your site - you want unique, targeted visitors actively seeking your product or service.
Leads - a valid email address usually makes the best ‘lead’ since people can and do give fake names and addresses online. If someone won’t give you a valid email address, chances are they won’t give you their credit card to make a purchase either.
Email leads enable you to measure interest and to follow up with prospects. Once you know the number of unique visitors to your site you can calculate the percentage of leads you develop and concentrate on ways to improve your conversion by testing different offers and headlines.
Sales - the number of sales as compared to unique visitors represents your most critical statistic because it tells you whether or not you’ve made a profit.
For every hundred visitors to your site, how many sales do you make and how much money do you net?
Most failed dot-com’s never bothered to answer this simple question.
Selling on the web is a ‘numbers game’ - learn how to make the numbers work for you!

You have a detailed business plan, which showed the overall intent of your company. You presented the business plan to your bank before start-up and they submitted funding in the amount that you both deemed acceptable. The original business plan contained the basis of the procedures that will help you stay focused while the company grows. Let’s examine some of these processes that you will use to give your business the focus it needs to grow and succeed.
1. A marketing plan. If sales are a part of your operation (and it seems that some form of selling is always a big part of every company), then, you will need to have your sales group focused on a marketing plan. Short term and longer-term analysis should be a part of this planning and will likely contain an analysis of your competition, market potential and sales projections. Be careful not to fall into the trap of letting “the business take care of itself”, stay focused at all times and be sure your managers are tuned into this market monitoring regularly, nothing is more defeating to the general manager/owner than to be told by a sales manager…I didn’t see that coming! YIKES!
2. Accounting procedures. If sales are important, then the need to stay focused on receiving the proceeds from sales is equally important. Accounts payable, expenses and accounts receivable need to have fixed procedures in place to allow money to flow freely through the company coffers. Focusing on these procedures at regular weekly and monthly meetings will put the accounting and marketing groups on the same path. A rift between marketing and accounting is a common bureaucratic occurrence; so don’t be surprised if one point you hear from someone from sales state, “We make the money here, how come I have to live by their rules?” Getting these two operations to stay focused on a bottom line results oriented approach is a regular part of an owner’s job description.
3. Human resources. If you have ever worked for a manager, who considered his employees as expenses rather than assets, then you will be familiar with the need for managers to stay focused on human resources within the company. A manager who is fixated on staff reduction regardless of their accomplishments will create an atmosphere of fear. Certainly, no one wants to be grossly over-staffed, but a good owner/manager will focus on keeping adequate employee base numbers, and ensure continuing training, safety programs and top of the line employee benefits. It’s your campground, why not have “happy campers?”
4. Selling your business. This does not mean selling in the true literal sense. It means focusing on being sure your company image is one that is the envy of your competitors and is known in the business world as a first class operation. You can do this by having key managers attending industry conferences. Be clear and tell them that their focus at these seminars is to network, thoroughly gathering as much new information that they can. They should also ’sell’ other attendees on the importance and efficiency of their company in the industry. Upon their return, have follow-up meetings with these managers where they will report in detail on what they have learned. Managers attending conventions and seminars should take opportunities to enjoy themselves, nevertheless, they will be the “face” of your company, it’s wise be sure that they focus on making them business meetings, and not all “playtime.”
If planning, organizing, staffing, direction and control are five major factors in managing a company, staying focused throughout the process, is paramount!

Your credit score may be increased by 200 points, if you simply buy a good credit Of course you may think, that it is impossible and it is illegal. But facts tell, that it is a complete truth. For 30 years people and companies practice this and it is entirely legal.
For example you need the favorable credit score for some loans (auto loan, home loan). In this case make the investments in acquisition of the seasoned primary accounts. But, first of all, convince of these accounts being primary. Don’t mix up them with the authorized user accounts. They don’t regulate the credit score as it were earlier. These seasoned primary accounts have good credit history and are old enough to be relied on.
The process is very simple. You pay and use a someone’s account, and this helps the account to acquire the excellent credit history. You put money on the account before it is closed. The account holder, who contributed before you, is transferred off the money, and you occupy his place. Now you are the primary account holder with excellent payment history. Then it reflects on your credit score within 15-30 days. The federal law permits such a procedure.
The number of trade lines you acquire define the state of your credit score. You buy a single trade line, your score increase 40-45 points. The more you buy, the more you get.
Unfortunately, primary accounts are rather expansive (1500$ for one). But they bring benefit to their owners.

The holiday season came. If you enjoy shopping in Christmas, you have a lot of opportunities to spend your money. The most popular way of shopping among Americans is shopping with credit cards. This year Christmas shopping won’t put you in the credit card dept.
Firstly, create a budget. Plan how many gifts you’d buy and the near cost of the gifts. Be aware of the credit limits. Plan the way how you’ll pay back the dept of your credit card. Experts say that you should spend the definite sum of money, which you can pay back in 3 month. Others advice to reduce the time to one month. But you should work out your own scheme and follow it.
Then, use the credit card in the more useful way. Get the greatest number of benefits using the credit card in the holiday time. If you want to carry balance during a few months, you need a credit card with low interest rate. Using such a card, you save money in the next year.
Many shops offer discounts (10% or more), if you use their credit card. But remember, don’t sign up for many credit cards. It may influence your credit score (shorting on your funds, overstretching your credit). Also avoid the credit cards with a high interest rate. Generally saying gets the Visa or MasterCard and uses them. It’s the best variant.
Christmas’s shopping online is popular and convenient too.
Follow these rules and you avoid any problems during your holiday shopping.

Writing your first eBook may seem like a daunting task. But like many projects, it won’t seem so bad when it’s broken down into manageable chunks. Not all projects are successful, so don’t be too disappointed if your first eBook isn’t a best seller. Whatever the outcome of your first eBook, you can at least say ‘You did it’.
Like many things in life, what often seems impossible can be attained with the right attitude and the right equipment. It could be a marathon run, climbing a mountain or finding parking space at the supermarket.
If you want to play golf, you will need clubs, balls and some practice. There’s no guarantee you will become another Tiger Woods but you will become a golfer.
If you want to write an eBook, you will need a computer, software and some directions. Assuming you have a computer and software or access to them, here are some directions.
Establish Your Reasons
Your reasons for wanting to write an eBook will have a major impact on your success.
It may be for financial gain, promoting a business, advancing your career, education, self satisfaction or something entirely different. Whatever your reasons, write them down. It will help to motivate you if the going gets tough.
Choose Your Subject
There are countless subjects that you can write about. It’s wise to choose something you have an interest in or knowledge of. It is worthwhile spending time on this. The more you know about your subject, the easier it will be to write about.
Choose Your Title
After you’ve chosen your subject, you’ll need a title for the eBook. It’s worth writing down a few different ones before deciding on the one you’ll use. This will help to keep your focus and may give you some other ideas. The title should give a clear indication of the content in your book. A catchy title may help to sell it, but remember to balance this with clarity to keep it in context. I’ve written down two examples. Feel free to use them if you have a sense of humor.
A Clubbers Paradise - Golfing in Ibiza
20 Minutes Late – The Future of Trains
Choose Your Audience
The subject and style of your writing will determine your audience. Decide who your desired audience will be. Age, gender, culture, social background and education are factors you may want to consider. What you write should be targeted at your desired audience.
Write Your Thesis Statement
Although it’s possible to write your eBook without a ‘thesis statement’, it is not recommended. If you are unfamiliar with this term, there are many sources available that will provide you with all the details you need. Unfortunately, there are some differences of opinion that may lead to confusion.
The ‘thesis statement’ deserves a separate article of its own but for now I have written a general definition of a thesis statement for eBooks. This may leave the door open for criticism but is a small price to pay if it removes some of the confusion. More importantly, it will give you a base on which to start. Only use it as a guideline. If you want a more specific definition, Google is a good place to start your search.
A thesis statement is a sentence or two written to clearly show the reason(s) for your eBook and what you expect to write about.
Although I have referred to this as a general definition, keep in mind that your actual statement should be as specific as possible.
Think of it as the foundation for your eBook. It should contain the following:
1) Your subject
2) Your opinion on the subject
3) A supporting reason for your opinion
4) The significance of 1), 2) and 3)
Create Your Document
Now that you have the foundation, you can begin writing. A standard application like MS Word is a good choice. While you are writing your document you can revise your thesis statement at any time up until it is published. This provides a good degree of flexibility.
Choose the format and layout of your document, including chapters, headings and introductions. Dependent on your subject, you may wish to add photographs, anecdotes or testimonials that keep the reader’s attention.
Since an eBook is generally read from a screen, you may want to break up the text more than in a printed book. Experiment with a few different fonts and look at other eBooks for ideas you can use. Spell check and save your document regularly. MS Word has an auto recovery feature. This is useful if you don’t save the document on a regular basis and later experience a system crash. Always backup your document. As a precaution you should also keep a copy on another media such as CD.
Choose Your Ebook Format
This is a personal choice. You may decide to create an executable (.exe) file or a Portable Document Format (.pdf) file. By no means an exhaustive list, here are some points to consider before you choose.
EXE files are compiled using an eBook compiler
EXE files may offer features that are not available with PDFs
EXE files can only be read on a PC
EXE files don’t require any other software to be read
EXE files are easy to open, easily branded, and good viral marketing tools
EXE files may be susceptible to viruses although some compilers offer virus protection
More information on the better compilers can be found at
http://www.ebook-site.com/ebook-compilers.html
PDF files can be created using Adobe Acrobat
PDF files can be created with several other 3rd party applications.
PDF files are an industry standard
PDF files can be read by both PC and MAC
PDF files require Adobe Reader to be read
PDF files are highly unlikely to become infected
More information on PDFs can be found on the Adobe website
Create Your Ebook
Create your eBook in your chosen format. Congratulations you are now an author.
