adsense.jpgHow do you make money from the Google Adsense Program? What AdSense Tips can you share with us?

I have been asked this question so many times in the past few weeks that I thought I should write something on the topic. It seems increasingly bloggers want to try to cover their hosting and ISP costs with some revenue from their blog - and increasingly they’re doing it and are able to make a few (or quite a lot) dollars on the side. Many are turning to Google’s Adsense program.

Covering costs of my Digital Photography Blog is why I originally signed up with Google Adsense - blogging can get expensive when you have high levels of traffic and a lot of pages.

Whilst the agreement you sign with Google stresses that you are not allowed to give specific information about your earnings from the program I can say that I’m glad I’ve signed up because its well and truly covered my costs - and then some. In fact I think its quite feasible to expect that Adsense coupled with other strategies for making money from Blogging could quite easily generate a decent living. It takes time and hard work, but I think its very doable. (Update: Since writing this series I’ve revealed that I am now looking at making over a six figure income this year in 2005 from blogging).

So how do I make money from Google Adsense? Let me share some AdSense Tips that heve helped me.

This will be the first in a series of posts on this topic. Let me say up front I’m no expert - there are a lot of people out there making a lot more money than I am using Adsense - however most of them are not telling their secrets - well not for free anyway. I’ve got no secrets to hide and am willing to share what I’ve learnt since I signed up for the program 8 months ago. If you want a REAL expert’s opinion on Adsense I’d recommend buying Joel Comm’s What Google Never Told You About Making Money with Adsense E-Book. Joel earns $15,000 per month from Adsense and has some good things to share.

I know some bloggers are put off or offended by the idea of making money from blogging so I’ll try not to let these posts dominate my blog - however if you are not interested in the topic, simply skip over these posts.

I am going to assume a few things in this series to cut down the amount of introductory comments I have to make. Here is what I am assuming:

  • You have a blog. Whilst most of the following tips will apply to other types of websites I run Adsense on blogs and will speak from that experience.
  • You have (or will) read a basic overview of Adsense and have some understanding of what it is.
  • You have(or will) read the program policies as outlined by Google. These give details of site eligibility, ad placements and other requirements for using the system.

Affiliate is a system of revenue sharing between one site (affiliate merchant) which features an ad or content designed to drive traffic to another site (advertiser). The affiliate will receive a fee (compensation or commission) based on the amount of traffic generated. Amazon.com is said to be the most visible pioneer in affiliate marketing. The affiliate merchants are the advertisers/merchants and the affiliates are the publishers/salespeople.

There are so many benefits of affiliate marketing: automating much of the advertising process (accepting and approving applications, generating unique sales links, tracking and reporting of results) and payment only for desired results (sales, registrations, clicks).

Paying only for performance shifts much of the advertising risk from the merchants to the affiliates, although merchants still assume some risk of fraud from partner sites.

Many leading online companies have been successful because of affiliate programs. It is not unusual to see industries where the major players have affiliate programs — often structured in a similar manner and making similar competitive changes over time.

Successful affiliate programs require a lot of maintenance and work. The number of affiliate programs just a few years back was much smaller than it is today. Having an affiliate program that is successful is not as easy anymore. The days when programs could generate considerable revenue for the merchant even if they were poorly managed are over. Today’s managers need to be very much involved in the program or face early termination of their program.

The benefits for the affiliate are:
• No need to own, ship, refunds etc, products or services.
• Affiliates will be provided with marketing tools and will benefit from services that would otherwise cost too much to afford.
• Affiliates will be able to learn a lot and use what they learn to further advance their career in the company.

Working from home and making money online is the best job in the world anyone would try to be into. Joining affiliate programs is building a partnership so you better make sure you make the most of what they can offer you.

If you want to earn cash online or offline, you need to know many things: how to promote products or services, how to organize advertising campaigns, where to look for the perfect customers and how to attract them to your shop. When you join an affiliate program, you can learn all of these things. It will be to your advantage because you can work from home in your own time, you can ask questions anytime and they will offer you tons of guides and tutorials.

Nowadays, if you want many resources in your hands, you would need thousands of dollars for courses which may or may not help you at all but not with affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing will help you learn everything and make money online at the same time. Don’t you want to be paid to learn something that will be useful to you all your life? Affiliate marketing will make it possible for you.

Almost every affiliate marketer looks for the market that gives the biggest paycheck.

Most think there is a magic formula that is readily available for them. Actually, it is more complicated than that. It is just good marketing practices that have been proven over years of hard work and dedication.

There are tactics that have worked before with online marketing and is continuing to work in the online affiliate marketing world of today. With these top three marketing tips, you will be able to able to increase your sales and succeed in affiliate marketing online.

What are these three tactics?

1. Creating unique web pages to promote each separate product you are marketing. Do not lump all of it on one website just to save some money on web hosting. It is best to have individual site focusing on each product.

Always when possible, include your personal input like product reviews on the website so visitors will have an initial understanding on what the product can do for them and include testimonials from satisfied users. Make sure that these customers are more than willing to allow you to use their names and photos on the site of the specific product you are marketing.

You should also write articles highlighting the uses of the product and include them on the website as an additional page. The pages should be attractive, compelling and include calls to act on the information. Each headline should attract the readers to read further into your copy. Highlight your special points with bullets. This will help your readers to learn what the page is about and arouse interest.

2. Offer free reports to your visitors and position them at the very top side of your page so they would not be missed. Try to create autoresponder messages that will be mailed to those who input their personal information into your opt-in box. Statistics shows that a sale is usually closed on the seventh contact with a prospect.

Only two things can possibly happen with the web page alone: closed sale or the prospect leaving the page. By capturing emails allows you to place useful information into their inboxes at certain specified period, you will remind them of the product they thought they want later and to reinforced their need to have the product. Be sure that the content is directed toward specific reasons to buy the product.

Focus on important points like how the product can make life and things easier and more enjoyable. Include compelling subject lines in the email. Avoid using the word “free” because there are still older spam filters that dumps those kind of contents into the junk.

3. Acquire traffic that is targeted to your product. If the person who visited your website has no interest whatsoever in what you are offering, they will be among those who move on and never come back. Write articles for publication in e-zines and e-reports. This way you can locate publications that is focusing on your target customers and what you have put up might just grab their interest.

Try to write a minimum of 2 articles per week, with at least 300-600 words in length. By continuously writing and maintaining these articles you can generate as many as 100 targeted readers to your site each day. Always remember that only 1 out of 100 people are likely to buy your product or get your services. If you can generate as much as 1,000 targeted hits for your website in a day, that means you can made 10 sales based on the average statistic.

The tactics above are not difficult to do. It just requires a little time and an action plan on your part.

Try to use these tips for several affiliate marketing programs. You can end up maintaining a good source of income and surviving in this business that not all marketers can do. Besides, think of the huge paychecks you will be receiving…
